Here's a temporary page for some light pollution information.  If I really get motivated perhaps I will make it a permanent page.

To learn more about the light pollution crisis and how it could be fixed, visit the International Dark Sky Association website.

Here are a few pictures I took on the evening of 8/25/06 comparing the lighting at two local home improvement stores.  I found that the lighting at Lowe's was very bright, in fact the glare was excessive and although the lights were pointing down, they were not very well shielded.  I also noticed that the Lowe's lights were not all the same type.  The Home Depot, on the other hand, had much better lighting.  Their parking lot was adequately lit by yellowish lamps that did not cast an excessive glare.  Note that my observations may not be representative of all locations for either store.

Please forgive the poor image quality.  Lowe's on the left, Home Depot on the right.
